Located in Reykjavik's central square across from the Cathedral and House of Parliament, this hotel could not be any more central. With the main shopping street just around the corner, Reykjavik is on your doorstep. Keflavik International Airport is a 45 minute drive.
More of an institution than a mere hotel, this is certainly one of the best hotels in Reykjavik. Opened back in 1930, this hotel has a very high reputation and has been the home of presidents and pop stars ever since.
An imposing traditional grey 6 storey building and a very fine piece of architecture and one of the oldest buildings in Reykjavik.
Guests have use of two restaurants; the cafe which is extremely popular with locals and has a lively atmosphere most of the day and evening; and the main restaurant, which offers a more formal dining experience in a luxurious traditional setting.
Rooms vary in size from medium to large. Although they retain a traditional feel the rooms have been restored to the highest standard in traditional Art Deco style with beautiful solid wood floors, and furniture, fixtures and fittings of really wonderful quality. All rooms are in exceptional condition as are the characterful bathrooms.
The small lobby is traditional in style and there is a seating area as well as the entrance to the very popular cafe.
