This is a party hotel. That's true of many hotels in Miami Beach. But in the case of Hotel Ocean, it means that the restaurant in the courtyard in front of the hotel blares amplified pop music from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. every day. A live guitarist or singer (or both) perform even more loudly every evening. After 1:00 a.m., the restaurant workers then yell instructions to each other across the courtyard for about an hour until the place is cleaned up.
You can shut your hotel room windows, but this doesn't filter out the noise, because the speakers are mounted to the courtyard walls just outside your windows.
If you want to party 'til 2:00 a.m. and only then go to sleep, Hotel Ocean is for you. If you need some quiet in order to fall asleep at a normal hour, however, you won't get much rest here.
The hotel rooms (we saw two) are large and fairly nice, but our inability to think, much less sleep, during the evenings was very disappointing. The restaurant was actually short of customers most of the time, even during the live performances, while the hotel courtyards to the north and south (which did not play loud music) were usually packed. Hotel Ocean seems to be losing out with its blast-em strategy, while the hotels featuring quieter dining and drinking seem to be doing fine.
